FAQ
General Club Info
The Drexel University Roller Hockey Club (DURHC) consists of 3 or 4 teams (depends on interest) competing across the collegiate roller hockey scene. Our top team, or A team, competes as a Division I program in the Eastern Collegiate Roller Hockey Association (ECRHA). Our B team participates in the B Division of the ECRHA. From year to year, the B team may also participate as our top team in the local league, the Philadelphia collegiate Roller Hockey League (PCRHL). Our C and D teams also compete in the PCRHL.
ECRHA and PCRHL Info
The ECRHA consists of over 50 teams in the northeast United States and is one of eight regions which form the National Collegiate Roller Hockey Association (NCRHA). Teams play ECRHA league games at “tournament weekends” in which schools travel to any number of rinks in the Northeast and play three to five league games over a weekend, therefore lowering travel expenses. Beginning in 2005, the ECRHA may begin playing home and away series like traditional collegiate sports. The PCRHL consists of close to 20 colleges teams in the Philadelphia area. Teams play one PCRHL league game per Sunday during the season, all of which are played at Marple Sports Arena in Broomall, PA.
Required Equipment
Several pieces of equipment are required for play in the DURHC. These include inline hockey skates, HECC certified helmets with facecage, hockey gloves, shin guards, and elbow pads. No Mylec equipment can be used. Uniforms are purchased through the club. The A and B team members are required to have a gold helmet (not painted) to match the teams.
Tryouts
Tryouts for the DURHC take place sometime during the first three weeks of Fall term at Drexel University. Everyone trying out for the club is required to pay a one time, non-refundable fee of $20.00 each season.
Practices
For the 2005 season, the A/B teams practices three times per week. Tuesdays we’ll play in a mens league to offset the few weeks break between “weekend events”. We’ll practice Thursday night at 10:30 PM in Feasterville and Saturday morning at 10 AM at Feasterville (on weekends we don’t have games). The C and D teams practice once per week on Tuesday and Thursday respectively. Each practice is an hour and a half.
Club Dues
At the beginning of each season, club dues are collected by the Treasurer of the club. The DURHC receives an annual allocation from the Student Activity Fee Allocation Committee (SAFAC) at Drexel University. All DURHC expenses not covered by SAFAC are split evenly among all four teams members. From season the A and B teams also may pay a small amount to cover additional travel expenses. Beginning the 2007-2008 season, the DURHC adopted a “No Pay, No Play” rule. After tryouts, all members that do not pay club dues per the defined schedule will not be allowed to participate in any club activity.
