Thank you for visiting the official website of Drexel University’s premier club sport: Roller Hockey. A perpetual contender year in and year out for collegiate roller hockey’s highest honors, the Beasts from the East are among the nation’s best and brightest in the sport.

Comprised of four teams amongst two leagues, DU is a mainstay in the roller hockey lifestyle, at all levels of play, being nationally recognized for its organizational structure and excellent developmental programs. The top two teams compete in the DII and B Divisions of the ECRHA (Eastern Collegiate Roller Hockey Association), a subsidiary of the NCRHA (National Collegiate Roller Hockey Association). They compete at a nationwide level and travel to tournaments all over the northeast.

The second set of teams make up the PCRHL (Philadelphia Collegiate Roller Hockey League) which compete locally with Philadelphia area schools such as Penn State, Villanova, St Joe’s, and West Chester.

Both divisions practice at the Sportsplex in Feasterville PA which is about 30 minutes from campus.

New and interested players are highly advised to register on the Message Board as that is where we do the majority of our communication. The link on the right will take you to the board where you will receive instructions on how to register. You must have a valid Drexel email to sign up. The club is open to all undergraduate and graduate students, both male and female. Stay tuned for updates about tryouts, preseason practices, and possible meet and greets with the team.

Hello Everyone!

I’m glad to see that we are receiving quite a bit of interest this year from new players. It’s good to know that the future of our club continues to look so promising.

I just wanted to give a few reminders regarding the upcoming month. For our event calendar, see the sidebar.

For new players, sign up for the message board (please read the Welcome thread before doing so, though) ! We do all of our important communicating via the message board, so it is quite important. Please be sure to use your name as your user ID (FirstLast), and follow all instructions upon signing up.

I would also like to say, that the Drexel Roller Hockey Club is most definitely a co-ed club. I have received interest from four different females, regarding playing. So if you are an interested female don’t hesitate to come out!

We have practice this Tuesday and Thursday (October 2nd and 4th) at 10 PM at the Sporstplex in Feasterville. All new players are encouraged to attend. We have already had a number of new players attend already. Trust me, it will help you come tryouts. We typically meet at Drexel Pizza to carpool. See the message board for more information.

Also on Thursday October 4th at 8 PM is our annual pre-season meeting. New and returning players are encouraged to attend, but it is especially important for new players. I will go over all of the important information regarding our club. Not only that but I get to meet all of you, and answer all of your questions. The meeting will be at the DAC Media room, downstairs to the left of the gym.

This weekend is the Pre-season ECRHA Columbus Day Event. Our A and B teams will be attending as usual. Because our tryouts are not until after this event, our coaches are choosing teams based on our practices. If you are a new player and would like a shot at being rostered this weekend, you must come out to practice this Tuesday and Thursday.

Next week, we will again have practice on Tuesday and Thursday (October 9th and 11th) at 10PM. These will be the last 2 practices before tryouts, so it will be your last chance to knock off the rust.

Tryouts are Saturday, October 13th at 8 AM at the Sportsplex. There is a $15 tryout fee to cover administrative and rink costs. Everyone must be there by 8 AM so we can take care of administrative work. We will get on the rink at 9 AM to begin tryouts. We have the rink reserved until 2 PM just in case we have a very large turnout (which looks promising!). Again, please see the message board for more information, especially regarding rides and carpooling. You will know what team you are placed on at the end of tryouts, but I will say, every year we have players climb the ladder in terms of teams. We currently have A team players that started off as D team players.

Following tryouts we will then adhere to our “standard” practice schedule. The A and B teams will practice on both Tuesdays and Thursdays, while the Blue and Gold teams (formally referred to as C and D teams) will practice together on Thursday nights.

Please email me, president@durhc.com, with any further questions. And lastly, sign up for the message board!

Thank You,
Kevin Christmann
